Dr Shashank Vikram, Consul General of India, Birmingham is Diplomat from the 2004 Batch of Indian Foreign Service(IFS). Dr Vikram is a medical graduate. Before assuming the charge of CG, Birmingham, he has served in various capacities in Government of India, in Indian embassies abroad and in the State Government of Uttar Pradesh. He has worked in Embassy of India, Lisbon, Embassy of India, Brasilia and also as Consul General of India, Durban, South Africa. In Ministry of External Affairs he has served in PAI and OIA Divisions. In Uttar Pradesh, Dr Vikram has served as Special Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) & Additional Mission Director for National Urban Health Mission and as Special Secretary(Tourism) & Managing Director, UP State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC). Dr Vikram is the Chief Patron of the World Music Conference, with the aim of promoting Music and Mental Health.
Amish is a diplomat, author and columnist. He has taken over as the Director of The Nehru Centre in London in October 2019. Amish has been listed among the 50 most powerful Indians by India Today magazine in 2019. Forbes India has regularly ranked Amish among the top 100 most influential celebrities in India. Amish was also selected as an Eisenhower Fellow, a prestigious American programme for outstanding leaders from around the world, in 2014. Amish published his first book in 2010, and has written 8 books till date. His books have sold 5.5 million copies, and have been translated into 10 Indian and 9 international languages. Amish is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta. He worked for 14 years in the financial services industry before turning to writing.
Andy Street was re- elected as the Mayor of the West Midlands in May 2021.. The primary function of the role is t chair the West Midlands Combined Authority and brings with it significant powers over transport, housing, skills and jobs. Before becoming Mayor, Andy combined a career with John Lewis, Britain’s most successful workers’ co-operative, with a host of high-profile economic development roles, working with local and national government. Starting on the John Lewis graduate scheme, He was the Chair of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership between 2011 and 2016, helping to build the relationships that have underpinned the economic growth of the region. Additionally, he has been lead non-executive director for the Department for Communities and Local Government as well as a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Group. Outside of work, Andy is passionate about the arts, particularly in the West Midlands. In June 2015, Andy was awarded the CBE for services to the national economy.
MAYOR OF SOLIHULL 2021 – 2022 Councillor Ken Meeson Ken was born in Shoreditch at the outbreak of World War II and spent his childhood in North London apart from being a wartime evacuee in Essex. He later moved to West Yorkshire where he served in the West Riding Constabulary and after a period in the Police Force worked as an insurance claims investigator before becoming a Regional and then national Development Manager for Lloyds of London Underwriters. His final working years were as Clerk to the Corporations of Dudley College of Further and Higher Education, Matthew Boulton and Sutton Coldfield Colleges, where he was also Company Secretary and involved in creation of the newly merged Birmingham Metropolitan College. His professional qualifications include the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and Member of the Association of College Registrars and Administrators (ACRA). Ken lives in Dorridge and has represented that area as a Councillor for 36 years, having been first elected in 1984. Over this time, he has chaired Committees, been Leader of Council for 10 years, Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Skills and for Adult and Children’s Services and also Chair of Solihull Health and Wellbeing Board. Nationally he has served on the Local Government Association Children and Young People Board, People and Places Board, the Workforce Board and currently chairs the Management Board of West Midlands Employers, the Regional Employers Board for Local Government and other Public Sector organisations. He has a long-standing concern for vulnerable children, particularly those in care or in challenging circumstances and has chaired national conferences and given evidence to a Parliamentary Select Committee on Special Educational Needs. For many years he was Trustee/Director of The National Children’s Bureau and is still a Trustee of The National Youth Agency. Locally he has been an NHS Non-Executive Director, Governor of Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Trust, is Mental Health Champion for Solihull and a Lay Hospital Manager under the Mental Health Act and Trustee of the Sir Josiah Mason Trust. Ken has had a lifelong association with Scouting, has received the Medal of Merit and Bar awarded by the Chief Scout for Services to Scouting and for over 50 years has been an Accredited Local Preacher for the Methodist Church.
Tony has a rich and varied hospitality/leisure background working in and operating health clubs, bars, restaurants, family entertainment centres and hotels, most recently Hotel du Vin in Birmingham. Tony is an active ambassador for the region, newly appointed President for Solihull Chamber, Deputy Chair for Solihull BID, Board Member of the Midlands Retail and Hospitality Forum, Head Judge for the Midlands Food, Drink and Hospitality Awards and the Midlands Education Awards and of course proud Board Member for the Birmingham Thyagaraja Festival.
Dr Paul Sabapathy CVO CBE. was awarded the OBE for services to urban regeneration in 1995. In 2004 he was awarded a CBE for services to business and education in the West Midlands. He was awarded the prestigious Lunar Society Medal for his outstanding contribution to public life. He has received Honorary Doctorates from Aston University, Birmingham City University and University of Birmingham. Paul was appointed as the first non-white Lord- Lieutenant in 2007 and held this post until September 2015. In October 2017 in recognition of his outstanding services as Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands Her Majesty the Queen bestowed her personal recognition by conferring on him the prestigious and rare Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. He is the Patron of the British Carnatic Choir and ShruthiUK, a South Asian organisation based in Birmingham.
K V Rao has a Masters in International Business from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, India. He has worked in diversified industries and enterprises, in leadership positions, including a stint with the Singapore Civil Service as a Director with International Enterprise Singapore. He is specialized in International Business, and has an experience that covers 40 countries in the developed and emerging markets, with a focus on Asia. A very senior corporate leader, he is currently the Resident Director – ASEAN, for Tata Sons Limited, promoter of the Tata Group. He has served the SIFAS Committee in several capacities for over 18 years. He has a deep interest in classical music / arts and has also been trained in classical Tabla for a decade in his younger days. He is Vice President of SINDA, member of Board of Advisors of SICCI, Chairman / Board member of Tata Group regional subsidiaries. He is an able leader, and a much sought-after speaker and a blogger.
tAlison Ohta is the Director of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. She completed her doctoral thesis at SOAS, University of London on bindings of the Mamluk period (1250-1516). Vittal Ramamurthy, an internationally acclaimed violinist, a top ranking artist of All India Radio is the torchbearer and leading disciple of the Lalgudi bani. His resume of accomplishments include being a solo artist, accompanist, teacher par excellence, and last but not the least, a humble student of the art. He has accompanied stalwarts such as his Guru Lalgudi Jayaraman, M. Balamuralikrishna and others. He has students worldwide, many of whom are leading performers today. To give back to the community, he conducts summer music camps in his native house Karunbithil where he was born to groom more than 250 students in the style of Gurukulam. He was awarded with several titles including "Vani Kala Sudhakara' and "Asthana Vidwan" of Sri Sringeri Mutt and Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Michael became Vice-Chancellor and Principal on 1 August 2019, having previously served for eleven years at the University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Michael holds an ex-officio post on the Corporation and serves as the University’s Chief Executive Officer, with specific responsibilities for making proposals to the Corporation on the educational character and mission of the University and for the management of budget and resources. In his previous role, Michael was responsible for Corporate Services and the development of the University’s estate. This followed an earlier career in both the further and higher education sectors and a commercial stint in the aviation industry
Mr. Pala Babu Rajesh has been elected as the Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the oldest surgical college in the world. He is the first Indian to hold this office in 513 years of the college’s history.
He spent a glorious year in Tambaram at Pre-University studying natural sciences at the Madras Christian College in 1965-66 with the intention to study Medicine. He passed the examinations with a first class and went on to study medicine at the Madras Medical College.
He was appointed as Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital in 1995. He was awarded the Minimal Access Surgical Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998.
His commitment to teaching and training attracted many surgical trainees to Birmingham. The unit is now a renowned VAT’s center in the UK. He was one of the founder members of the Birmingham Review Course in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, a premier and prestigious course in UK and Europe, which is, now in it’s 23 rd year.He set up the Malaysian National Training programme in Cardio-thoracic Surgery in 2015 and actively participates in trainee selection and monitoring of ongoing training. He sits on various committees in the college to assist training, education and to maintain standards.
Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan is an acclaimed senior musician steeped in traditional classicism. A recipient of Sangeet Natak Academy award, he is renowned for rendering effective concerts couched in ‘Bhakthi’ (devotion) and ‘Bhava’ (emotion), he skillfully elevates music to the pedestal of divine life philosophy. His excellent theoretical depth with extensive research of the best approaches makes him a distinctive musicologist. This multifaceted and versatile singer is also proficient at playing the veena and percussion instruments with strengths in ‘laya’ exposition. Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan hails from a culturally strong family, and was initiated into music by his mother Smt. Jayalakshmi Ammal. He obtained his early guidance from reputed gurus like Sri.Chembai C.S.Ananthamani Bhagavathar and Sri Srirangam R.Ranganathan. Sankaran Namboothiry, who hails from Punnayam in Perumbavoor, Kerala is a front ranking Carnatic classical musician from the state who is known for his traditional as well as innovative approach to the art. Hailed as a child prodigy, he gave complete classical music concerts from the age of ten. He was trained by eminent stalwarts like Padmabhushan TV Gopalakrishnan and Padmashree K V Narayanaswamy. A rewarding and eventful performing career of 37 years had prestigious music festivals in countries like Germany, France, Netherlands and America. At home, he gave more than 10,000 concerts in prominent venues that include the Music Academy, Chennai, Soorya festival, Shanmukhananda Fine Arts, Mumbai and more. He also represented Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India in Botswana, Johannesburg, Dar ES Salam, Kenya etc. In 2009, his music is consummate in technique and artistry, became the youngest artiste to be awarded ‘A TOP’ grade from the All India Radio and my concerts were broadcast under Akashavani Sangeetha Sammelan and National Program of music on Doordarshan for many years. The recognitions he received include ‘Kalashree’ from Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy, Junior and Senior Fellowships from ICCR, ‘Yuva Kalabharati’ (from Bharat Kalachar, presented by M S Subbulakshmi) and so on. His evocative singing, which is rich in expression and content, was brought to listeners through albums by HMV, Sangeetha,AVM,EMI ,SARIGAMA and more. He believes art should remain connected with the society and environment around him and his philanthropic services made him envisage Raaga Music therapy sessions in several hospitals. His attempts at taking classical music to the youth saw collaborating with SPICMACAY and other youth organisations to give concerts and lectures in schools and universities and also moulding many eminent young musicians. He also embraced popular music when his calibre as a classical musician was well utilized in a few classical songs in Malayalam and other South Indian movies. His research on rare raagas and rhythms in ragam thanam pallavi is lauded by contemporary musicians and academicians alike. His music repertoire has rare raagas and compositions, and is renowned for his immaculate diction and rendition of devotional songs and also his technique of improvisation.. He collaborated with eminent musicians like Padmabhushan T N Krishnan, Padmashri Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Padmabhushan T H Vinayakram, Palakkad Raghu and has been felicitated and commended by illustrious artists like Bharatratna M S Subbulakshmi, Padmavibhushan Balamuralikrishna, Yesudas and Ilaiyaraja.
Karaikkal Sri.V.Balagurunathan hails from the family of Sivachariyars. He is a Post graduate from the world renowned institution Kalakshetra. He is holding a Master Degree from the University of Madras and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Tamil Nadu music and Fine Arts University. He served as Senior Tutor at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (Singapore) for about nine years. He is a regular adjudicator at the Singapore Youth festival. Guru Si.V.Balagurunthan being a performing artist and teacher also performs frequently in and around famous sabhas during Margazhi Season. He is an ‘A’ grade artist of Doordharshan Kendra, Chennai. He has won several awards and titles like Obul Reddy Senior Dancer award, Abhyasa Nrithya Vardhini, Nrithya Chinthamani, Acharya Kala Vipanchee, Sathya Nartaka Sundaram, Kalaikomamani to name a few. He has travelled far and wide to many countries like the US, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Mauritius, South Africa, Nepal, Indonesia, etc. conducting workshops and teaching various students of different disciplines.
Sai Shiv is a Professional Mridangam artiste and the Disciple of world renowned Mridangam Maestro Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani.He is also an A grade artiste with All India Radio (Chennai). Initially trained under the guidance of Guru Sri V. Nagabhushanachar. Sai Shiv had the opportunity to experience the Gurukula form of training at Guru Karaikudi Mani's school in Chennai. He proceeded to advanced and intensive training under his able guidance to learn the intricacies and complexities of this wonderful musical instrument. Sai Shiv currently performs both as a solo percussionist and accompanist to many artistes. He has been an accompanying artist to many top artistes and also a part of many percussion ensembles of his Guru. Sai Shiv is also an independent composer who has scored background music for many short films and documentaries.He has composed many music singles and albums which are available on his official Youtube Channel.He had his training in Western Classical Piano from Mr. Felix Joseph which along with his Mridangam training have helped him blend Indian and western Music seamlessly and create a unique style of his own
With over a decade of experience in the public sector, Bharat earned his MBA in 2015 from Coventry University and currently works an International Lead at UCB, where he is responsible for creating global partnership’s and recruitment activities for South Asia, Africa and Middle East. Prior to his work for UCB, Bharat worked at the Indian Embassy and was responsible for creating the outreach agenda between Indian and UK; this included the organization and delivery of cultural activities like the ‘350th Anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’, ‘550th Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’ and ‘Diwali on the Square’, which achieved international recognition. Bharat has great passion for the arts and has both worked with and supported international artists from both India and UK.

Rekha encourages all art forms and as a responsible youngster she imparts knowledge of different arts forms to students. In this context she organises a cultural event every month at her dance studio which acts as an eye- opener into the world of arts.
As a young exponent of dance Rekha has a lot of achievements to her credits, like a doctoral degree, many awards and recognitions representing Mohiniattam at various universities inside and outside India.
She is the sole member of the expert committee panel for mohiniattam at the "Cultural Ministry Govt of India" ., an empaneled artist of the ICCR and an " A" graded artist at the Doordarshan.
She has received many awards like Nritya Rejini,Nrithy Kaumudi, Best young Dancer Bangalore Tamil sangam, Yuva Kala Pratibha , Swarna Mukhi, Nritya Varsha Deepika Etc Rekha received the prestigious Yuva Kala Bharathi award from the esteemed Bharath kalachar on 16th January 2016. Dr. Rekha received the Bharath Nritya Samrat award at the Nagpur Dance Festival in February 2016. The performance was an eye opener to all as they were seeing Mohiniattam for the very first time.
Rekha is being invited by the University to conduct workshops for college and school students to widen the knowledge of Mohiniattam in them. Rekha even toured the rural parts of Rajasthan, U.P through SPICMACAY where she conducted workshop demonstrations of Mohiniattam in government schools where the students are even deprived of basic necessities. Mohiniattam was not just a new dance form but a complete new word to them. They learnt some gestures basic mandalam of Mohiniattam. It was very well received.
Dr. Rekha received the prestiguous Krishna Gana Sabha endowment award this year amd even received the Natya Mayura Tharakai award at Mayura Natyanjali in April 2017. She received the Kalayogi award from the Iccr last year. Dr . Rekha ventured a new concept Dasa where she paid tribute to all saints of North India and South India as a devotee, this were saints of the north, south east and west, another feature of this performance was that thavil chenda Nagaswaram was also used Rekha is in the delight of celebrating the 25 th Arangetram of her students in September, which is a bench mark to her as an Acharya. Rekha has performed at some of the prestigious festivals of India like the Gowri International Festival, Konark Festival, Soorya Dance Festival, Sangeeth natak Academy Festival, Kerala tourism’s Dance Festival, Delhi International Festival etc.

(Pavitra Art Visual Institute), A Bharatanatyam Institute established in a suburb of Mumbai at present has the strength of many students pursuing this art form. Having completed arangetram of 9 students. 8(eight) students of the Institute have been awarded with CCRT’s Junior Scholarship and also many students have won laurels in various competitions.
Rekha Satish is a versatile Kuchipudi artist of this generation a Performer,Teacher,Choreographer,and Yoga Practitioner.Mastered the art for last 3 decades initial training was at Kuchipudi Art Academy Chennai and later on Guru- Smt :Manju Barggavee.. Dr Priyanka Basu is a Lecturrer in Perofrming arts at King's College, London. . She also holds Visiting Fellowships at the Institute of Advanced Studies, UCL and the SOAS South Asia Institute. She obtained her PhD degree in South Asian Studies from SOAS for which she received the prestigious Felix Scholarship. Her earlier MA and MPhil degrees in English Literature were completed at Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. Before joining KCL, she worked for more than 5 years in the Asia & Africa Department at the British Library as Curator of the AHRC/BEIS-funded ‘Two Centuries of Indian Print’ project. She curated the South Asia Seminar Series as part of this project. She has taught as Guest Lecturer at SOAS, University of Glasgow, Loughborough University, King’s College London, University of Bonn and Shiv Nadar University. Priyanka is trained in the Indian classical dance form of Odissi and has performed in Japan, India and the UK.
