Dr Vasumathi Badrinathan

A Carnatic Vocalist, Scholar, Writer & Academic

Dr. Vasumathi Badrinathan is a Carnatic classical singer, a research scholar, writer and academician. Initiated into music at a very young age by her mother late Smt. Padma Seshadri, Vasumathi subsequently trained with the renowned guru late Smt. T. R. Balamani.

A Fulbright Fellow and an Erasmus Mundus scholar, Dr. Badrinathan tours extensively and present her concerts in many prestigious national and international festivals. Some of her notable performances include International Mugham Festival, Baku; Fes Festival of World Sacred Music, Morocco; “Celebrating 150 years of Gandhi”, Myanmar; International Jazz Festival, Baku; International Fusion Festival, French Touch Festival, International Forum of Francophony, New Year Festival, Reunion Island; World Summit of Francophony, Montreux; besides several music festivals in India. As a thinking musician, Vasumathi is involved in several research productions and collaborates with musicians across the world.

As a creative writer, Dr. Badrinathan contributes to some of the leading Indian & overseas publications on art and culture. She has published columns, articles, short stories, poems, and translations from Marathi & Tamil into French. Her recent book ‘Le Tiruppavai ou Le chant matinal de Margali’ is a translation of the classical Tamil poetic verses of Andal’s Tiruppavai into French. Dr. Vasumathi Badrinathan blends her national, international and multi-cultural expertise in bridging the gap between business, people, cultures and languages.
